At Elvington we run a variety of sports clubs after school. Clubs on offer vary depending on the time of year and will sometimes be organised to coincide with competitions that we are involved in, and are are run by parents, teachers and specialist coaches.
Currently we have specialists from the Jorvik Sports Partnership and York City Knights delivering gymnastics, rugby, athletics and working to develop our playleaders as well as a range of teacher-led clubs. For more information please see the ‘Afterschool Clubs’ page of this website. where you will also find the letter and form sent out to parents at the beginning of the term. We endeavour to give every child a place in a club if it is possible.
We are lucky enough to receive help and support from Dan Mayo, one of our parents. He is a qualified coach and coaches at our local club, Elvington Harriers. The children train on our school field. We are also members of the York Schools Football league and regularly play matches against other schools. Boys and girls are welcome from year 4-6. Mrs Granger who organises our football matches is hoping to start a girl’s football team shortly, and has already involved York City football Club who will be running some coaching sessions in the spring.
Netball club is run by Miss Hewson. Y6/5 children are welcome. The children play matches & attend a tournament run by the Jorvik Sports partnership. They even play against the staff at the end of the year!
Gymnastics is run by Premier Sports and the children have an opportunity to enter the Jorvik Gymnastics competition. Team training will be given by Mrs Granger nearer the competition. Last year the Y3/4 team came 3rd!
