As you are hopefully aware, this week is Elvington’s Sports Week. Throughout the week, the children will be taking part in a range of sporting activities, as outlined in the Summer Term Dates letter.
I am sure you will agree that these experiences are incredibly valuable. They provide opportunities for children to develop their physical, social and communication skills, whilst trying new activities, building resilience and learning new skills.
To help children fully participate in Sports Week, please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school each day. Children in EYFS should come to school wearing their PE kit each day, with the exception of Monday, when all children are invited to wear their favourite sporty clothes in exchange for a bottle donation for Elvington’s PTA. The bottles collected will be used to support the PTA’s bottle tombola.
It is essential that all children bring a water bottle and have appropriate sun protection. As in previous years, if the warm weather continues, we will set up additional water stations to ensure children have easy access to drinking water throughout the day. Children will also be encouraged to spend time in shaded areas whenever possible. Should an extreme heat warning come into effect, it may be necessary to modify or curtail some activities in the interests of safety.
We have noticed that a small number of children are not currently wearing the correct kit for PE. Details of the school’s PE kit requirements can be found on our website: www.elvingtonprimary.org.uk/parents-carers/school-uniform
There is also a range of PE kit items available through the Second Time Around Barn, so please do not feel under pressure to purchase new clothing.
You are welcome to join us for the culmination of Sports Day (1:15 to 3pm, Tuesday 23rd June) and the Mini Marathon (2pm, Friday 26th June). Please feel free to bring foldable chairs to either of the aforementioned events. I am also pleased to share that the PTA will be selling ice lollies during the latter part of the afternoon (£1 each), with all proceeds going towards providing enhanced educational opportunities for our children.
Please note that some events may need to be postponed, amended or curtailed in the event of adverse weather conditions. Should this be necessary, parents and carers will be informed as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the weather remains beyond our control.
Thank you for your continued support.Mr Buttery
