Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)

Do you have a child in Year 4?

If so, in June 2023, all Year 4 pupils in England will be taking an online ‘Multiplication Check’.  The purpose of this test, is to check pupils’ fluency of their times tables up to their 12 times tables.  At present, the outcomes of this test will not be published but parents/carers will be told their child’s score and the school will use this information to put extra support in place for pupils who need it as they move into Year 5.

What is the MTC?

The MTC is an on-screen check consisting of 25 times tables questions. Your child will answer three practice questions before moving on to the official check and will then have 6 seconds to answer each question. On average, the check should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete.
