Update – 01/05/2020

Friday 1st May 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

As you will all be aware there has been an increasing amount of speculation about a potential date for the reopening of schools.  There are number of points I would like to make in relation to this:

  • I am in regular contact with City of York Council and the Department for Education and no date has been suggested for increasing the number of children in schools.
  • Schools are not currently closed. They remain open for the children of those adults working in critical sectors and vulnerable children.
  • It is abundantly clear that social distancing will be required in schools for a considerable period once lockdown restrictions begin to ease. At present this has unknown implications for the expansion of pupil numbers and the structure of the school day.
  • All staff who are able to, will continue to work either in school or from home, and we will be very much continuing to run the school and ensure the wellbeing of all children in our care, whether this be on site or remotely.
  • My main priority is to ensure that the safety of your children, and consequently the whole school community, is paramount when lockdown measures are eased.
  • I will continue to keep you as informed as possible; please be assured that any dates that are mentioned by the media are purely speculative at this time.

If you are one of our key worker families and you require us to be open on Friday 8th May (Bank Holiday to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day), please let me know as soon as possible.  This can be done either via email head@elvingtonprimary.org.uk or by calling 07525719461.
